About this exhibition

Thread Carefully was a week-long, grant-funded sustainable textile art exhibition and interactive colloquium held at Southlands Venture, University of Roehampton, London in June 2026. Conceived, curated, and executed by Yíímiiká, the project explored circular fashion, textile waste, and the intersection of material practice with environmental responsibility.

The exhibition brought together textile artists, researchers, and audiences to engage in dialogue around the environmental impact of the fashion and textile industries. Through woven, dyed, and constructed works, Yíímiiká examined how traditional African textile methods — rooted in resource consciousness and minimal waste — offer a model for sustainable contemporary practice.

The project was supported by the Roehampton Sustainability Team and Greenpeace Africa, and was grant-funded by the Southlands Methodist Trust. Thread Carefully was featured on the UK Great Big Green Week platform, connecting the exhibition to a national conversation about climate action and sustainable futures.
