About this exhibition

In 2024, Yíímiiká was invited to present a body of contemporary textile work at the EcoBank Adire Lagos Exhibition, held at the EcoBank Pan-African Bank in Lagos, Nigeria. The exhibition placed handcrafted Adire textiles — a resist-dye tradition rooted in Yoruba culture — within a major commercial and design space.

The works explored the preservation and evolution of African-Nigerian textile heritage, asking how traditional craft can maintain its cultural depth while entering modern institutional contexts. By situating Adire within a banking environment, the exhibition challenged the boundaries between art, commerce, and cultural identity.

The project engaged visitors across creative, financial, and cultural sectors, presenting cloth not only as aesthetic object but as living archive — a material record of Yoruba dye traditions, community knowledge, and contemporary artistic vision.
